About Rosi Gimeno, LMHC, MCAP
What I Do and Why I Do It
I specialize and have extensive experience in Addictions and Mental Health Counseling and work with individuals who are coping with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, marital difficulties, life transitions, decreased self-esteem, anger management, stress management, dual-diagnosed (substance abuse and a mental illness) and symptoms depression. I also provide guidance on setting personal and professional goals. I love what I do because I am able to help individuals learn how to gain independence and control of their conflicts in order to live satisfied lives.
I practice several interventions but rather than bore you with the technical stuff I will tell you my interventions are integrated depending on your personality, life experiences, cultural background and degree of acculturation. I adapt my approach to YOUR needs but always will provide you with unconditional positive regard, a non-judgmental stance (trust me, I’ve heard it all) and the feeling of being understood.
Many have commented on my calming nature but I also will give you my gentle bluntness on my thoughts and never sugar-coat what you sometimes need to hear. Remember, I’m on your side!
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Substance Abuse Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and I am a Masters Addictions Professional. I’m a licensed mental health counselor with the state of Florida (MH13792) and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
Why anxiety? Because so many people suffer from some degree of it. I for one have experienced anxiety at different times of my life. As a therapist, I learned what works for me (mindfulness, acceptance and commitment approach) and what works for many of my clients. Not feeling in control can be scary but it doesn’t have to be once you educate yourself on your symptoms and what to do and how to think about it.
I grew up in south Florida which makes me bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish. I have been married for over 17 years and have two children and two dogs which all four bring plenty of laughs and sometimes frustration to my life but it’s all good. Growing up in south Florida has allowed me to get to know and understand several cultures adding a richness to my life I don’t think I could have achieved in another state. Also, being raised in this town has made me a sun goddess. Although it may not seem like it, I love the sun, hot weather and all the activities associated with warm weather, including scuba diving. Needless to say I am not a fan of the cold. Island vacation anytime!
I am currently accepting new clients and offer you a choice of personal appointment locations of in-office counseling and online counseling. For those who wish to feel supported in a group setting, I also facilitate small specialty groups in my office. Group members can learn, understand, gain insight and enhance their individual psychotherapy regularly on such issues as: addictions, relapse prevention, substance abuse education for loved ones, grief, anger management, mindfulness or forgiveness.
